Kayaking the Apostle Islands, August 2003

Day 2 - Kayak Oak Island to York Island

The map for reference...

We only had a total of 7 miles to paddle to next campsite on York Island so we decided to add 5 miles by kayaking around to a northeast point on Oak to a "keyhole". The second picture is of Steve, then one of Dave and Denise, then Dave, Denise, and Steve. The last picture is the "keyhole". We stopped at an excellent beach nearby and ate lunch.
From Oak, we crossed over to Raspberry Island and landed on a sandbar on the east shore.
We hiked from the east shore of Raspberry 1 mile to the western shore to the Raspberry Island Lighthouse.
We departed Raspberry, passing the lighthouse as we set off for the final 3 miles to Our campsite on the north shore of York Island. The final picture of the day is of our group finally on the beach on York after a total of 12 miles of kayaking and 2 miles of hiking, our longest day.
